Cliffs of Moher
Die meisten Reisenden fahren direkt zum mittig gelegenen Besucherzentrum und genießen von da aus den klassischen Blick nach Südwesten zum "Hags Head". Anstrengender, aufwendiger, aber auch viel schöner ist es, sich die Klippen auf dem neu geschaffenen Weg von Doolin aus zu erwandern. Noch besser ist, sich der geführten Tour von Pat Sweeney anzuschließen und so Informationen aus erster Hand zu bekommen. Ich habe zwischen Mai und August 2013 die Tour dreimal gemacht und stelle hier die schönsten Bilder davon vor.
Tourists mainly drive directly to the Visitor's Center to enjoy the famous view from O'Briens Tower to "Hags Head". Even more enjoyable, though demanding, is the 8-km-walk from Doolin to the center, using the newly build footpath. Even more rewarding is the tour guided by Pat Sweeney - it gives you information from a local farmer who initiated that path being build. From may to august, 2013, I've walked that path three times.
Kurz nach dem Start in Doolin führt der Weg die alte Straße entlang über eine
schöne Steinbrücke. Im Hintergrund ist das restaurierte Doonagore-Castle zu sehen.
Starting in Doolin, the path follows the old road to the cliffs. We cross the old bridge - it needs
some repairs - and look southbound to Doonagore Castle.
Bald zweigt der neue Wanderweg von der alten Straße ab. Der Zaun schützt das Weidevieh
vor dem Sturz über die Klippen.
Soon we leave the old road and follow the new build path. The fence keeps the cattle from falling
down the cliffs.

Finally the final ascent comes into view.
Nur noch ein paar Meter bis zur höchsten Stelle. Der Blick reicht weit bis Hags Head.

Leider immer wieder waghalsig und unvorsichtig: Besucher auf dem überhängenden Felsen.
Visitors on top of the preak. Do they know that the cliffs are still falling? And do they
know that at least two people a year meet their death at the cliffs?
