Athionchollú - "Just Wee"
Neagh's Daughters
Im Norden Irlands liegt ein großer
Binnensee,
"Lough Neagh". ( Lough, gesprochen "Loch", heißt
ganz einfach "See"). Der Sage nach wohnt auf seinem Grund
das Nixenvolk. Die Zeit dort vergeht viel langsamer als die unsere.

In my prime, in the Spring, my bonnie love
gave me a
ring.
The most bold fisherman you've ever seen.
So he went for
Lough Neagh plenty fish there to seek
And he laughed at my anxious
warning.
I had heard of those maids dressed in their hairy
plaids
and I really just wanted to warn him.
In the waves of Lough Neagh their poor
victims they did
seek
And they followed them down to their town.
And they dance
and they sing but neither autumn nor spring
and no sun touches
ever the ground.
On the seagull bright wing winter changes to
spring.
Ten long years since he'd left I had count'.
Autumn mist are
covering the hills.
Oh, Lost
Time!
My hair is turning grey
for you're not in love with me
but with Neagh's daughters.
In the summer's bright light my youngest
sister was a
bride.
And her son was as bold as my Love.
But he never did see
any maid of Lough Neagh.
And he married a handsome young dove.
Icy cold it
snows upon the hill.
Oh, lost time!
My
hair is turning grey
for you're not in love with me but with
Neagh's daughters.
Wintertime he came home he looked like he
had never
gone
The long time had not touched his young face.
"Oh
dear lassie, it's me!". But my smile he did see
in the eyes
of my nephew's daughter.
"Now will you marry me? Where's the
ring I gave thee?"
Icy cold it snows upon the
hill.
Oh, lost time!
My
hair it is all grey
for you spent my lifetime down with old
Neagh's daughters.
